I woke up this morning, with a slight hungover, to find an email in the inbox from Gordon of Project: Mooncircle telling me he had a guest mix for us. Always a pleasant surprise when good friends of ours get in touch like this, even more when it’s someone like Gordon who we’ve worked with for years now ever since the beginnings of both Rhythm Incursions and Project: Mooncircle back in the early/mid 00s. Regular listeners will no doubt be familiar with the label’s output – releases from the label are a common feature in our monthly shows and we’ve had quite a few of their artists guest on the show in the past (click here for a run down). So to finally have Gordon, the man behind the label, step up for a guest mix is nice. Actually if memory serves me right Gordon did do a guest spot for us back in 05 when Waxfactor presented the first Project:Mooncircle special which was also one of the first podcasts we did, back when Rhythm Incursions was a bi weekly show on Resonance FM. So nearly 6 years on (damn time flies) Gordon steps up again with a selection across the board featuring the likes of Headshotboyz, Shlohmo, Lapalux, Teebs, Quendolinfender, Capella, Coco Bryce, fLako, Koreless, DZA, Luisterwaar, Ital Tek, Jehst, Joe Kickass, Killing Skills, CYNE, Gards From KC, Evil Ed and more… The mix features a fair few unreleased/forthcoming bits and there is no tracklist aside from the above artists mention.

Dieses Gerät hat die Golden Era des HipHop maßgeblich geprägt. Der 1987 von E-mu Systems hergestellte Drum Sequencer und Sampler war vor allem für seinen gritty Vinylsound bei Produzenten bekannt. In den Neunziger entwickelte sich die SP-1200 zum Lieblingsinstrument der ganz Großen. Nun bringt der französische Kleinstverlag 27 Sens mit SP-1200: The Art And The Science einen Band heraus, der sich ausschließlich diesem Equipment widmet. Das Buch führt den Betrachter auf 270 Seiten mit Photos und Illustrationen durch die Geschichte, die Technik und den Einfluss der SP-1200 im HipHop. Die Bilder werden ergänzt durch Texte von PBody und Interviews mit amerikanischen und französischen Producern, u.a. Buckwild, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Roddy Rod, E-Swift, Lord Finesse, Ski Beatz und Imhotep. Dazu gibt’s eine Instrumental-LP vom französischen Beatmacher Juliano. Eine gelungene Hommage an ein Stück Technik, das für einige der besten HipHop-Platten verantwortlich ist.

Freunde des ehrlichen Deutschrap aufgepasst! Über das junge Label Daily Concept, auf dem zuletzt das Album von Chezz.One & Damian herausgekommen ist, erscheint die Debüt-LP Gegengewicht von dude&phaeb. Die beiden Hildesheimer Rapper haben vor vier Jahren ihre Skillz vereint und schreiben seitdem wortgewandte, reflektierte Texte über Geschichten aus ihrem Leben im Kleingarten. Fernab vom Mainstream stellen die beiden ein Gegengewicht »gegen Popmusik und Produktion von Pornoclips«. Bis auf einen Track ist das Album von dude26 produziert, der die Raps mit smoothen, samplelastigen Beats unterlegt. Hinter den Plattentellern steht DJ Ivory on Fire aka Ive the Knife, der ebenfalls aus dem Hildesheimer Umfeld stammt. Neben dem Wiesbadener Rapper Eloquent, der einigen vielleicht durch sein Album Das Ich und Dein Verhängnis bekannt ist, sind Mr. Moon und Delicious Chrischuzz als Features auf der Platte vertreten.
